Classes of Saints & the BlessedAll Saints are holy and their relics worthy of veneration, yet each Saint is a unique individual who expressed devotion to Christ in a personal way. Their hagiographies provide history of their lives and deaths, but we are able to group Saints into classes related to their station in life, acts of piety, and nature of death (of course, a Saint may appear in more than one class - a bishop can be a doctor of the Church, or an Apostle a martyr etc.) Click on a class name below to explore the Saints of that class whose relics are retained at the Shrine of All Saints. Please note; the word "class" is used here to denote a particular group of saints whose share a similarity of life, station, or death. It does not refer to a class of relic - the Shrine of All Saints retains many relics of all classes, although most are First-Class Relics (a portion of the corporal body of the Saint). The creation of classes and assignment of individual saints to a particular class within the database is ongoing, and so this list may be incomplete. The Shrine asks your patience as we work to catalog the extensive collection of relics we retain! |
